Selank Overview
Mechanism of Action
Selank is a synthetic analog of the naturally occurring immunomodulatory peptide Tuftsin (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg) with an added Gly-Pro sequence for enhanced stability. It modulates the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and serotonin, producing anxiolytic effects comparable to benzodiazepines without sedation or dependence. Additionally, it enhances IL-6 expression and influences the balance of T-helper cell cytokines.

Is selank habit-forming?
No. Unlike benzodiazepines, selank does not act on GABA-A receptors and has shown no evidence of tolerance, dependence, or withdrawal in clinical studies. Its anxiolytic effects work through BDNF and serotonin modulation.
Can selank be taken intranasally?
Yes. Selank is commonly administered both subcutaneously and intranasally. Intranasal delivery provides rapid onset of anxiolytic effects due to direct access to the CNS via the olfactory pathway.
