Kisspeptin Overview
Mechanism of Action
Kisspeptin is a neuropeptide encoded by KISS1 that acts as the master regulator of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis. It stimulates GnRH neurons, triggering downstream LH and FSH release. It is the physiological ‘on switch’ for puberty and reproductive function, activating the HPG axis without desensitization seen with continuous GnRH analogs.

How is kisspeptin different from hCG?
Kisspeptin works at the top of the HPG axis by stimulating GnRH neurons, triggering the natural cascade. hCG mimics LH directly at the gonad. Kisspeptin’s upstream action produces the most physiological hormonal response.
Can kisspeptin treat low testosterone?
Research shows it effectively stimulates testosterone via the HPG axis. Its short half-life currently limits practical use compared to hCG for chronic therapy.
